Use guidance and service limitations
This page explains what Find WC Now does and what should not be relied on without checking. Mandatory consumer rights remain unaffected.
Private, independent service
Find WC Now is not an official website, public authority or service of the City of Vienna, the Republic of Austria or any other public body. It is not operated, represented, supported or endorsed by them. “Official data” refers only to the source of the OGD dataset and does not make Find WC Now an official service.
Scope
The MVP covers Vienna only. It is independent, free, accountless and not an official City of Vienna service. No particular feature or uninterrupted availability is promised.
No live confirmation
Existence, access, hours, staff, facilities, accessibility and charges can change at short notice. “Open now” is a cautious inference from interpretable official text, not live confirmation.
Where no reliable price field exists, Find WC Now says “Not specified”. It does not claim live cleanliness and expressly states that no current cleanliness report is available.
Toilets inside buildings
A record may be inside a station, market, shop or other building. Access may depend on house rules, opening hours, a ticket, payment, key or staff. Check signs and access on site.
Location and distance
GPS, device sensors, map data and distance calculations can be inaccurate. “Nearest toilet” means the closest recorded coordinate by calculation, not necessarily the fastest, safest or accessible route.
Directions and third parties
“Start directions” opens Google Maps with the toilet as destination. Route, traffic, barriers, safety and availability are supplied by that service. Check the route and do not operate a device in unsafe situations.
Reports
Reports are prepared as email drafts and are not stored or automatically sent by Find WC Now. Send only truthful, factual information and no unnecessary health, location or other sensitive data. This is not an emergency channel.
PWA and offline use
An installed or cached version may be older than the online version. Check the displayed data date and refresh when connected. Offline availability is not guaranteed.
Acceptable use
Illegal use, disruption, security bypass, abusive automation or bulk queries—especially contrary to Nominatim or OpenStreetMap limits—are prohibited. Rights granted by law remain unaffected.
Liability framework
To the extent permitted by law, accuracy, completeness, currency, uninterrupted availability and fitness for a particular purpose are not promised. Check on-site information and keep an alternative when urgent.
Nothing excludes liability where exclusion is unlawful, including fraud or intent, gross negligence, death or personal injury, product liability and mandatory consumer or data-protection rights.
Rights and licences
The Find WC Now name, design and original code are protected. Open data and software remain available under the licences stated on the data-source page.
Changes, law and courts
Functions or notices may change or stop for technical, legal or security reasons. Mandatory conflict-of-law and jurisdiction rules apply. Consumer protection at a person’s habitual residence and mandatory courts are not restricted. Version: 29 August 2026.
